Srinagar, Mar 30 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said that there is no proposal under consideration for regularisation of supporting staff engaged under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Replying to a starred question tabled by MLA Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), informed that all supporting staff engaged under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Mahatma Gandhi NREGA are purely on a temporary and contractual basis.
The government said that such engagements are valid only till the end of the contract period or expiry of the scheme, whichever is earlier, and are not against any clear vacancy.
It further clarified that, as of now, no timeline has been fixed for regularisation of these employees, many of whom have been working continuously for years.
“As on date, there is no proposal regarding regularisation of services of supporting staff engaged under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA,” the reply stated—(KNO)
